I want to start a small garden/flower bed, but don’t know where to start .. ?

I have a small area off the front of my house enclosed in a “rock” border. It looks really cute but the gravel there looks like garbage and there are weeds growing out of it. What do I need to do to get it all going?
I figured I would buy some kind of anti-weed mat to lay down and then buy soil to put on top and then plant whatever I am planting.
Help please! I don’t know the first thing about Gardening but would love to start!

If there is gravel covering the whole soil area, you need to remove the rocks and get your planting area down to the soil. Then buy some compost and good top soil and till it into your planting space, at least 6″ deep. Then plant your garden and cover the exposed soil with a good quality mulch to keep the weeds out, don’t use weed block. Keep watered and fertilize as necessary for the type of plants you select.

I would like to cover every aspect of this topic. In order to keep things short I have only included the major topics detailed as good as possible. Many of us love having gardens that are full of flowers, herbs, ornamental shrubs, trees of another(a) types and lushly growing grass. Begonias and nasturtiums are among the edible flowering plants. As these garden flowers are eatable they are also great plants to let kids start their Gardening desires with.
